Obituary for Linus E. Drees Sr.

Linus E.  Drees Sr.
Linus E. Drees, Sr., 99, of Independence, MO passed November 7, 2018. He was born September 23, 1919 in Hobson, TX. At the age of 6 he was an altar boy and continued serving Mass, on and off, for 86 years. He attended St. John’s seminary in San Antonio for 6 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp in June, 1941. He served the duration of WWII with an honorable discharge in 1945. He worked at air force bases in Waco and Victoria, TX as an aircraft mechanic and engine shop foreman. He joined Pratt and Whitney aircraft in 1956 and worked as a field representative at various air force and commercial airline facilities. His final assignment was at TWA in Kansas City covering the 747 and 767 aircraft. He retired in 1983. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and Grand Knight in the Sherman, TX council. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 21-Tirey J. Ford. He loved sports. He played semi-pro soccer, baseball, fast-pitch softball, and was a life-time golfer with a hole-in-one. He was the devout South Texas altar boy who grew up and became the best Dad in the whole wide world. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Rose Evelyn Potts, his grandson John Drees, his parents John and Sofie Drees, two brothers Andrew and Rev. Charles Drees, and his second wife Dora Ramsey. He is survived by: his son Tony and his wife Julianna (Totta), his son David and his wife Connie (Corkins), and his son Linus Jr. He had 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial on Friday, November 9, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
